You must have met these supernatural beings with very pale faces, as if coming from another world. They’re afflicted by Noxophillic Sanguivoria that leads to vampirism. In ESO this gives the character not only a modified appearance, but also a separate skill line.
How to become a vampire
One of the most common questions from players who are not familiar with vampirism yet – what requirements must a character meet in order to become a vampire? Your character can be any level. The only thing that can become an obstacle is if you are already a werewolf.
There are three ways of catching Noxophillic Sanguivoria. The easiest one is to be bitten by another player who is already a vampire and has Blood Ritual passive ability. In order to get a vampire bite, you need to come to one of special shrines, and a vampire character must use “feed” on you. You can use a shrine in any location, no matter which fraction you belong to. Then you need to take the quest from the scroll that lies on the shrine as shown on screenshot. You can complete this quest within 7 days. Once you’re done, you can proudly call yourself a vampire.
Vampire shrine locations:
Bangkorai, Eastern Evermore
Rift, Fallowstone Hall
Reaper’s March, Fort Sphinxmoth
Those who are not taking the easy way, can search for special Bloodfiends. They appear only at night in Bangkorai, The Rift and Reaper’s March. Note that you can’t be infected by bloodfiends, that normally exist in some areas at any time. As soon as you found that special Bloodfiend and he bit you, you can just run away without killing him so that other players can get infected too. After this, just as in the previous case, you will need to complete the quest.
If you have extra money and no extra time, you can purchase Curse of Vampirism in Crown Store à Upgrades à Skill lines for 1500 crowns. In this case you don’t need to complete the quest, as soon as you used it, you are already a vampire. Curse of Vampirism affects only one character that is currently active.
Vampirism pros and cons
+ Your Magicka and Stamina restores 5% or 10% faster on vampirism stage 2 or higher, depending on Supernatural Recovery rank. It’s useful in long fights, so you’ll hardly be out of resourses.
+ Damage you take when you have low health is reduced up to 33% with Undeath ability.
+ You can be really fast in stealth mode with Dark Stalker ability and vampirism stage 4, which is very helpful in PvP and thievery.
+ The higher your vampirism stage, the lower vampire abilities cost.
– You get more damage from fire, depending on your vampirism stage.
– Health recovery becomes slower, again depending on the stage.
| Vampirism stage | Health recovery | Damage from fire | Ability cost |
| 1 | – 0% | +0% | -0% |
| 2 | -25% | +15% | -7% |
| 3 | -50% | +20% | -14% |
| 4 | -75% | +25% | -21% |
Hint. To minimize the negative effects of vampirism, it’s recommended to use a damage shield, self-healing can be helpful too. Try not to stand in attacks to reduce the risk of being hit by fire. Another thing you can do is play a dark elf who has fire resistance.
Appearance changes
Of course, after you become a vampire, there will be some changes in your appearance. As vampirism stage increases, skin becomes paler and eyes change color. If your character has tattoos, they will fade.
If you want to look brighter, makeup will help you with this. Lipsticks and other cosmetics don’t lose their color, despite the stage.
Leveling vampirism
Increasing the vampirism rank is not very fast, but easy enough. You just need to get experience from any sources, it can be dungeons, killing mobs, etc. If you have a vampire ability slotted, the rank will increase much faster.
To get higher rank of a vampire ability, you just need to keep it on the skill bar while doing different activities.
Vampire achievements
There are 2 vampire achievements, adding colors to your collection that can be used to dye your outfit.
Vampire: you get this achievement immediately after being turned.
Dye: Noxophilic Black
Vampirism Master: to get this one you need to reach maximum vampirism rank.
Dye: Lamae’s White
Controlling vampirism stage
There are 4 stages of vampirism. As soon as you turn into a vampire, you are at stage 1. Stage of vampirism increase every 6 hours of your activity in the game. If you have no time to wait and you need to increase the stage right now, you can use vampire abilities to do this fast. Each use takes about half an hour from the time left to the next stage.
Drain Essence requires a target, so it can be used only in combat. If you don’t want to run around and search for mobs, Mist Form which can be used out of combat will help you.
Sometimes you will need to reduce vampirism stage. The most obvious way is to feed by approaching a human enemy from behind in stealth mode. You can crawl with the [Ctrl] key pressed, use invisibility potions or skills. When you see the feed prompt at the bottom of your screen, press [x]. But beware, sometimes you can get bounty for it. Or you can simply use [Double Bloody Mara] drink, which can be crafted. It will be great to always have it in your bag just in case. Each feeding or using [Double Bloody Mara] takes off 1 stage.
Curing vampirism
If you decided to get rid of vampirism for some reason, you should talk to Prelate Sabinus. He can be found in Mages Guild at one of these locations: Evermore in Bangkorai, Riften in Rift and Rawl’ka in Reaper’s March. He will take some gold from you and perform a ritual, after which you will no longer be a vampire.
